The Net - Is It That Far From The Truth?
Posted by Lockergnome
The other night I was watching a film called the net staring Sandra Bullock, ad what basically happened was that she found a secret computer program which could access the government computers, because cyber terrorists knew she had this program they were able to hack into the FBI’s mainframe, because there was a backdoor in the firewall and security software which the software manufacturer’s had placed in there, and changed her identity and effectively ‘took her life away’.
I know this film was made in 1995 when dial-up was considered pretty much the fastest connection you could get and computers were about as secure as a sieve but even nowadays, could this actually happen. Even more worrying, could some of the big software companies *cough* Microsoft, Symantec *cough* actually intentionally place back doors in their software for others such as the police and the other federal agencies to access everything on your computer. Surely that’s against personal rights? I don’t know but I’d sure be interested to know what you think…
Thanks For Reading

PS - Don’t get too paranoid, it was only a film
