Printer.com ( www.printer.com), an independent online printer and cartridge shopping resource, has announced the hiring of Bob Crum as director of U.S. Operations. Since his hiring in October 2008, Crum has managed the acquisition of more than a dozen online affiliate retailers to provide consumers and corporate buyers a comprehensive shopping resource to purchase printers and cartridges.

Launched in December 2008, Printer.com is an independent research and shopping channel that utilizes its own database of more than 4,400 printers and 1,600 cartridges, providing consumers price comparisons to determine the true cost of a printer over time. Based on usage variables entered by the user, Printer.com provides a 5-year cost snapshot of each printer, with the ability to connect consumers to authorized online merchants to complete the purchase. Supplementary cartridges can be researched and purchased as well.

“Bob’s decades of marketing and sales experience are a highly valued asset to Printer.com and its mission to provide the most complete informational online resource to find printers and cartridges,” said Marcel Borgman, International Director and co-founder of Printer.com. “His stellar work ethic has already paid dividends with the acquisition of numerous affiliate merchants participating in the Printer.com online merchant program.”

Crum’s career spans more than 30 years in marketing and sales roles for Fortune 500 companies, including Hewlett-Packard and Sun Microsystems. At HP, he led numerous product marketing, direct and channel sales and industry analyst relations initiatives. In addition, he participated in the startup phases of HP’s commercial computer sales, support and marketing program in Europe. After HP, Crum assisted in the launch of the Sun Partner Advantage program for Sun Microsystems in the Asia-Pacific and Latin America channels.

“With budgets tighter than ever for businesses and individuals right now, Printer.com gives consumers a new tool to save money, providing a long-term and bigger picture scenario of what a printer will actually cost,” Crum said. “We see Printer.com offering the consumer the tools and online merchants to help them make more informed and better purchasing decisions that will ultimately save them money.”
